Rubik's Cube

The Rubik's Cube was invented by Erno Rubik in the spring of 1974. He wanted to create a working model to help explain three- demensional geometry and ended up creating thw World's best selling toy. Rubik called his invention 'Magic Cube', but it was renamed the Rubik's Cube by the Ideal Toy Corporation in 1980.

More than 300 million Rubik's Cubes have been sold throughout the world. If all the Rubik's were placed on top of eachother it would be long enough to cover from the North Pole to the South Pole! The biggest Rubik's Cube in the world, on display in Knoxiville,Tennessee, is 3 metres tall and weighs over 500 Kg.

The World Cube Association runs competitions where players have to solve the Rubik's Cube one-handed, as well as having to solve it only with their feet! The current world record for the fastest solved Rubik's Cube was set by Erik Akkersdijk at the 2008 Czech Open with a time of 7.08 seconds! I don't know about you but I think that is Amazing!!!!!
