The history of the Rubik's cube
The inventor of the Rubik's cube is Erno Rubik. Rubik was a teacher at the Department of Interior Design at the Academy of Applied Arts and Crafts in Budapest, Hungary. He was always interested in the relationships between 3-D objects and was looking for an example to show his students. He tried to make the cube simple, but have a complex design. He handcarved 26 little squares, but could not figure out how to make the inside of it. He tried to use magnets, rubberbands, and even string. But he could not figure out how to make the inside of the cube. Well, one day he was by the river and he saw rocks being smoothed out by the river. Then he realized that the inside of the cube had to be circular. He made many of these and passed them out to his students. His students thought it would be easy, but soon were proved wrong. Over the past 30 years, the cube has grown tremendously. When Rubik first put it out on the market, the popularity had to spread by ear because the cube was not being advertised. Now, the cube has become the most popular puzzle in the world. Kids and adults try for days weeks and months to figure this complicated puzzle out. Some have managed to be able to figure out the Rubik's cube in a matter of seconds. Some people can even do it blindfolded! But whether you can do it blindfolded or not, we all manage to have fun with this wonderful puzzle. ![]() | ![]() |
