It was originally named the "Magic Cube".In the year of 1980 the Rubicks Cube won the German Game of the Year. This year of 2010 is the 30th anniversery of the Rubicks Cube. The Rubicks Cube has sold over 350 million cubes. The sides of a Rubicks cube are white, orange, red, green, blue, and yellow. The cube can pivot into up, down, left, and right positions as you desire.The cube has 6 faces and 9 color filled little squares on each face. The fastest time a Rubicks Cube has been solved was by Erik Akkersdijk in 7.08 seconds. Erik was from the Netherlands. He did it in the 2008 Czech Open. The biggest Rubicks Cube is 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide, and weighs over 1,200 pounds.There are 519 quintillion ways to solve a Rubicks Cube. A fun fact is that all the Rubicks Cube lined up in a straight line would be 261 light years long! Some considerations for the name of the Rubicks Cube were, The Golden Knot and Inca Gold. There is a association for solving Rubicks Cube, called the World Cube Association. They invented a timer called the "Stackmat Timer", it is mandatory in the association. On October 13,2010, Evgeniy Grigoriev made the world's smallest Rubicks Cube at 10 millimeters per side of the cube. He broke the previous record 12 millimeters. Some demensions that custom Rubicks Cubes have are 2x3x4, 3x3x5, and 2x2x4. Some cubes have 1,000x1,000 mechanisms.
